Job Description Job Description We are looking for a dedicated Housing Specialist to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. In this long-term contract role, you will play a key part in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing and preventing evictions. This position is ideal for someone with strong administrative skills and a passion for helping others achieve housing stability. Responsibilities: • Provide support to clients facing housing challenges, including eviction prevention and emergency shelter placements. • Conduct assessments to determine client needs and develop personalized housing stabilization plans. • Identify and connect clients with housing resources, including landlords willing to rent to program participants. • Assist clients with budgeting, landlord-tenant education, lease negotiations, and signing rental agreements. • Maintain an up-to-date list of available housing options and build relationships with landlords to encourage their participation in housing programs. • Coordinate and schedule property viewings for clients, ensuring transportation arrangements when necessary. • Facilitate rapid rehousing services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. • Offer guidance on navigating housing processes and overcoming barriers to stability. • Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, calendar management, and responding to inquiries. • Build collaborative connections with community partners to enhance housing support services.• Minimum of 2 years of experience in housing assistance, social services, or a related field. • Proficiency in administrative functions such as scheduling, calendar management, and handling inbound calls. • Familiarity with supportive housing programs and fair housing regulations. • Ability to perform needs assessments and develop effective service plans. • Strong communication and negotiation skills, particularly in landlord-tenant interactions. • Knowledge of budgeting and financial planning to assist clients in managing housing costs. • Organizational skills to maintain housing availability lists and coordinate appointments. • Commitment to providing compassionate and detail-oriented service to individuals experiencing housing instability.
