The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads
District, is seeking a Senior Structure and Bridge Inspector to
perform in-depth visual and mechanical safety inspection of bridges
and highway structures to discover damage, deterioration, and
defects that would impair the life, serviceability, and safety of a
structure. Prepare, approve and sign inspection reports, provide
general condition and element ratings and make recommendations for
deficiencies.
The Core Responsibilities for the position include:
VDOT is an emergency response agency and this position may be
designated to support emergency operations during certain
situations. As such, you may occasionally be required to work an
assignment that includes hours outside the normal work schedule
including weekends and holidays. Not all designated employees are
provided an emergency operations assignment.

All drivers hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to
obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date. You cannot
operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary
licensure and medical certification. Effective February 7, 2022,
new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
require entry-level drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the
skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time, upgrade
their CDL from a Class B to a Class A, or take the knowledge test
to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to
complete FMCSA- approved Entry-Level Driving (ELD) Training before
the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or
endorsement. The course is comprised of 160 hours, on average, of
training. VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and
payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training
Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.
Position requires unrestricted mobility, working in all types of
weather, irregular terrain and standing for long periods. Work is
completed in, around, and above water, and from varying heights.
Must have ability to lift 100 pounds. Requires approved safety
shoes, which is a reimbursable expense. Personal protective
equipment is provided.

VDOT utilizes a market based pay program, which has been approved
by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align
with the Commonwealth pay bands.
