Title: Accounts Payable Specialist Hiring Range: $47,232 to $75,765 Pay Band: Agency: VA Dept of Transportation Location: Hampton Roads District Office Agency Website: jobs.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist. As an Accounts Payable Specialist you will perform full range of accounting functions in accordance with GAAP, federal, state, and VDOT policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities:

• Independently audit and perform final approval for accounts payable vouchers, research expenditures, prepare and analyze fiscal data and reports.
• Audit direct charge statements for compliance with VDOT policies and procedures.
  Advise users on VDOT policies and practices.
• Support other accounting functions and projects as assigned. This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously and organizing work to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with accounts payable, general ledger and accounts reconciliation.
  • Experience communicating with internal and external customers to explain financial data in understandable terms.
  • Skill in working with detailed numerical data.
  • Knowledge and experience with GAAP including cost accounting, internal controls and separation of duties. Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with fund accounting and governmental accounting.
    • Experience developing and delivering technical guidance on fiscal matters.
    • Experience with Small Purchase Credit Cards.
    • Experience in training (one on one or large groups).
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting. Equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree.       VDOT utilizes a market based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
