The Sous Chef assists the Assistant Manager-Kitchen as backup lead in managing the kitchen operation on a day-to-day basis. The Sous Chef ensures service is prompt and courteous, while meeting customer's meal expectations. The Sous Chef will assist in developing menu items, recipes, and structure processes to implement new food items. The position will oversee activities of the kitchen staff when the Assistant Manager is busy planning, ordering, or absent. The Sous Chef will ensure deep cleaning schedules are maintained and executed.













Core Responsibilities









  • Creates Daily Specials for lunch and dinner with the Assistant Manager-Kitchen and ensures proper food presentation. Incorporates local ingredients in menu items, when possible.
  • Works with the management team to control and manage day-to-day labor costs.
  • Promotes teamwork among Kitchen staff.
  • Assists with training of new personnel.
  • Responsible for overseeing line cooks adhere to all Food Safety aspects - maintains health standards according to state and local guidelines.
  • Responsible for overseeing line cooks adhere to all aspects of kitchen cleanliness, including scheduled detailed cleaning.
  • Maintains clean and safe kitchen.
  • Capable of working and teaching all kitchen positions.
  • Discusses food items and menus with staff to extend education so Front of House staff can adequately sell when leading the kitchen.     Qualifications









    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Two-year culinary sciences associate degree preferred and 2+ years related experience and/or a combination of education and experience.
    • Formal training in food preparation and culinary management preferred.
    • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
    • Strong work ethic and commitment to uncompromising quality.
    • Strong interpersonal relations and communication skills.
    • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
    • Strong time management skills.
    • Team player with a willingness to help other employees when needed.
    • Ability to work shifts with long periods of walking and standing.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekend evening, and holiday shifts.













      Supervisory Responsibilities









      • Fills in as #2 lead in absence of the Assistant Manager-Kitchen in directing kitchen staff activities.

Repetitive lifting and carrying open boxes up to 40 lbs.Gathering trash, breaking down cardboard boxes and walking to dumpster to dispose of trash daily.
