Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring Direct Support
Professional to join our team. Are you a compassionate, patient,
and dedicated professional with experience supporting individuals

care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and
Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in

positions are considered essential personnel and would be required
to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC
positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as
requested. Assist individuals with daily living activities,
personal care, and support for mobility . Utilize behavior
management strategies to support individuals exhibiting maladaptive
behaviors. Provide emotional and behavioral support while promoting
independence. Implement behavior intervention plans and work
collaboratively with a support team. Foster a safe, structured, and
positive environment. Shift Hours: 3rd shift: 10:00 p.m. – 6:00
a.m. Shift Differential is available for this shift: 3rd shift
weekday $2.25/hr. weekend $3.00/hr. All new hires must successfully
complete the facility’s pre-service training program for Direct
Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach
techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication
administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral
management, for continued employment. Training in behavior
management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice
training class is 10 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and one day
2p-10p). Position numbers 00235 will be filled from this posting.
Skills and experience required: We are looking for candidates who
are passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in
their lives. We also seek the following: Strong verbal and written
communication skills Must be dependable, accountable, and reliable
Must have ability to work a flexible schedule Must have ability to
work with an integrated team. Must have a high school diploma or
equivalent Must have active, valid driver’s license. Must have
basic computer skills to include the ability to use keyboard, mouse
and navigate an Electronic Health Record with minimum assistance
after training. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the
job with or without reasonable accommodation, which includes
standing, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50
pounds, providing support during all aspects of daily personal
care, and intervening with aggressive behaviors. Successful
completion of the facility’s pre-service training program, which
includes CPR, First Aid, medication administration, nutritional
management, and physical/behavioral management, is required for
continued employment. Ability to work collaboratively with
co-workers, Residential Supervisors and/or Supervisors,
Administrator on Duty (after hour supervisors) and ID team members.
Bonus points if you have: Prior experience working with individuals
with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals. Prior
experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing
Assistant, or similar role. Demonstrated experience working with
