Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join
our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit! This is a full
time, night shift in Suffolk, VA. Hours: 7p to 7a with rotating
weekends Sign On Bonus of up to $20,000 for qualified candidates.
About the Unit The Observation/Short Stay Unit is an 18-bed
department that specializes in observation, post-procedural
monitoring, and short-term treatments, including TIA workups,
stress tests, and radiology procedures. The maximum stay is
typically two days per patient. Registered nurses can expect
between 6 and 8 patient discharges per shift, with a
nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5 to 1:6. The unit is
supported by a highly skilled team of unit coordinators, educators,
and a nurse manager. It benefits from low staff turnover and a
strong culture of collaboration. Additional PCT staff are available
to assist with ambulation and patient care. This well-supported

Preceptors The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a
competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical
thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of
practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning,
implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion
and evaluation) along with the standards of professional
performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication,
collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice
/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and
environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of
professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and
skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas
Education - Students in process of obtaining Degree or Diploma in
Registered Nursing - Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
(required) - Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure - Students in process of obtaining
Registered nursing licensure - Registered nursing License
(Required) - BLS required within 90 days of hire Experience - None
required - 1 year of acute care (preferred) - Previous healthcare
