Responsibilities:



  • Researches, analyzes, develops, designs, models, and tests communications systems and equipment, including but not limited to networks, data links, digital radio, battle management and command and control systems, wide and local area networks, point-to-point systems, secure systems, signal coding and modulation schema.


  • Conducts studies on communications systems and equipment, such as present and projected volume of communications, effectiveness and adequacy of system, and estimated equipment costs.


  • Performs engineering studies to obtain data on new equipment and systems developments in the communications field and adaptability of equipment to existing systems.


  • Performs work under minimal supervision.


  • Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.


  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. May act as a lead.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of engineering or technology or completion of USN or DoD technical schools.


    • Background in telephony and Avaya communication systems, IVN shipboard.


    • 5 or more years' experience.


    • Current SECRET clearance or ability to obtain is required.


      Desired Qualifications:


      • Ability to communicate effectively and provide system training.


      • Prior experience with shipboard installations processes and controls.


      • Ability to write test plans, SOVT's and white papers effectively.


      • Ability to read schematics, install, repair, and maintain electronic systems or equipment.


      • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning electronic equipment and systems and determine the level and method of repair.


      • Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring equipment.


      • Skill in using diagnostic and testing equipment.
