Duties To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the
assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the
required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective
classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in
compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain
accurate and current students records for the assigned student.
Minimum Qualifications The ability to engage students in one-on-one
teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab
environment. The ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge
and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education.
Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field,
adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program
needs. Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and
inventories; Demonstrate competency in the related field of current
trade licensure. High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have at
least two years' full time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience
in the last 5 years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching
certificate. License: Must be eligible for a Journeyman or Master
Electrician License or Industrial/Technical Professional License in
Electrical/relevant trade area/field issued by Department of
Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Must be eligible
for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education. If you
do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department
of Education (DOE): 1. You must submit all documentation for your
provisional license to the licensure designee for Virginia
Department of Corrections (VADOC) during the first 90 days of
employment. 2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year
probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to
continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).
Additional Considerations Experience in correctional education
classroom management. Five years experience in the related
trade/field. License: Must have a Journeyman or Master Electrician
License or Industrial/Technical Professional License in
Electrical/relevant trade area/field issued by Department of
Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Must have a
teaching certificate by the Department of Education (DOE).
Knowledge of all phases of the trade area; ability to supervise
adult in-mates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional
facility. Knowledge and experience in correctional education
classroom management. The ability to facilitate other instructors;
knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional
policies and procedures and policies governing correctional
